Cerebral Palsy in Adult Life

Christine Barber MSc MCSP - Director of Therapy Services, The Bobath Centre London


A course for Bobath and non-Bobath trained therapists which will address the problems associated with cerebral palsy in adult life, using a problem solving approach to treatment and management.

The course will include patient demonstration, video analysis, practical sessions and group discussion.

Aims:
To deepen the participants understanding of the functional and health problems experienced by people with cerebral palsy throughout adult life.  To explore management and treatment ideas.

Objectives:
By the end of the course participants should be able to:

. define cerebral palsy and describe the evolving clinical features of the different classifications of cerebral palsy.

.List the common associated problems that have social and health implications

.identify key factors that may lead to deterioration of functional level in adult life

.discuss the clinical reasoning behind intervention in this age group and give examples of treatment
