Hemiplegia in Early Childhood

This is a two day workshop covering the different types of children with hemiplegia from 0 – 16 years.

Who is the course for?
The course is open to paediatric physiotherapists and occupational therapists who are working with children with cerebral palsy.

Aim:

• To identify the various types of hemiplegia in childhood
• To provide an overview of the different clinical presentations relating to movement,
   sensation and perceptual motor behaviour
• To demonstrate the importance of teamwork in addressing these problems.

          Objectives:

Course participants should be able to demonstrate and discuss some of the above aspects and outline some of the principles and guidelines for treatment with some types of hemiplegia in childhood. Course participants will be able to:

• Identify the different presentations of hemiplegia related to cause.
• Say how sensori motor difficulties affect motor ability.
• Discuss the importance of shoulder girdle stability to hand function.
