Introductory Bobath Course
to the Treatment and Management of Children
with Cerebral Palsy
Who is the course for?
This is a course for physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and doctors who work with children with cerebral palsy or who hope to work in paediatrics in the future.
What and how will you learn?
The course is designed to give course participants an insight into the use of the Bobath concept through demonstrations, discussions and lectures.
Because of the introductory nature of this course, there will not be an opportunity for practical handling by course participants.
Objectives:
· To familiarise therapists with the basic concepts that underpin the Bobath
approach to treatment.
· To demonstrate the interdisciplinary nature of assessment and treatment
using the Bobath approach.
· To discuss the implications of an understanding of child development to the
treatment of cerebral palsy.
· To identify the features of spasticity and athetosis and demonstrate the
treatment of children with these clinical features.
Moving and Handling Statement
It is essential to have an awareness of the current safety
issues relating to 'moving and handling' and where
possible a working knowledge of the current legislation.
