Assisting and feeding children with cerebral palsy

Who is the course for?
This course is for meal time assistants working
with children with cerebral palsy who have eating and
drinking difficulties.
What
and how will you learn?
The
course has a practical focus. Basic safety issues will be
addressed in relation to positioning and handling of
children with eating and drinking difficulties and feeding
techniques will be practised.
There will be a
demonstration and opportunity to discuss many issues
relating to eating and drinking difficulties in schools.
We will explore factors contributing to and discuss health
issues related to long term feeding difficulties in
children with cerebral palsy.
The sessions will be illustrated with the use of dvds
and accompanied by comprehensive literature.
Moving and
Handling Statement:
It is essential to have an awareness of the current safety
issues relating to 'moving and handling' and where possible a
working knowledge of the current legislation.
Please
note:
This course is designed to improve safety awareness in
relation to eating and drinking and does not qualify the
participant to act as an adviser on the topic.
