Welcome to the Bobath Centre website - A national charity helping children with cerebral palsy

The Child and Society
All parents can play an important role in their child's social and emotional development and help build their character so that like any child he can develop a sense of self-esteem and confidence. This is always difficult, but can be more difficult for the child with cerebral palsy if he needs a lot of help or many things done for him. Each child needs to learn the acceptable boundaries and behaviours within the family peer group and social group of which he is a part. This process can be made easier through realistic goal-setting and future planning.

Many aspects mentioned here are dealt with in more detail in the book Handling the Young Cerebral Palsied Child at Home by Nancie R Finnie FRCP. It is published by Heinemann Medical Books.
