What and how will you learn?
The course has a practical focus. Basic safety issues will be addressed in relation to positioning and handling of children with eating and drinking difficulties and feeding techniques will be practised. There will be a demonstration and opportunity to discuss many issues relating to eating and drinking difficulties in schools. We will explore factors contributing to and discuss health issues related to long term feeding difficulties in children with cerebral palsy. The sessions will be illustrated with the use of dvds and accompanied by comprehensive literature.
Moving and Handling Statement
It is essential to have an awareness of the current safety issues relating to ‘moving and handling’ and where possible a working knowledge of the current legislation.
During practical sessions, it is expected that course participants will be involved in moving and handling for the purposes of the course. This course aims to give participants practical skills which can not be learnt by observation alone. However, it is also important to be aware of health and safety issues and the need for personal risk assessment.
This course is designed to improve safety awareness in relation to eating and drinking and does not qualify the participant to act as an adviser on the topic.
